Section 10(13A): Salaried employees receiving HRA can claim exemption equal to the minimum of: (1) Actual HRA received, (2) Rent paid minus 10% of basic+DA, (3) 50% of basic+DA for metro / 40% for non-metro.
Metro Cities: Only Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai qualify as metro cities for HRA calculation. All others are non-metro.
Documents Needed: Rent receipts, rent agreement, landlord PAN (if rent > ₹1 lakh/year). Submit to employer for TDS adjustment.
New Tax Regime: HRA exemption is NOT available under the new tax regime (Section 115BAC). Only old regime allows HRA claim.
