What is the BH series (Bharat series)?

The BH series was introduced by the Government of India in 2021. BH-series plates (e.g., 22 BH 1234 AB) are not tied to any state and are valid nationwide, making them ideal for people who frequently relocate due to work.

What formats are accepted?

The tool accepts spaced (MH 02 AH 1234), hyphenated (MH-02-AH-1234), and compact (MH02AH1234) formats. Input is case-insensitive.

What does the RTO district number mean?

Each state's transport department divides the state into numbered RTO zones. For example, MH-01 is for Mumbai (Central), MH-02 is for Mumbai (West), and so on.

Why does my plate say it is invalid?

The registration must match the standard Indian format: 2 state letters, 2 district digits, 1–3 series letters, and 1–4 serial digits. Plates from before 1980 or custom vanity plates may not match.

Does this work for electric vehicle plates?

Yes. Electric vehicle plates follow the same registration format. The green plate is a physical distinction; the registration number format is identical.

What are temporary (T) registration plates?

Temporary plates often start with "T" and follow different formats. This tool focuses on permanent registration numbers issued by RTOs.
