A UPI ID (also called Virtual Payment Address or VPA) is a unique identifier used in India's Unified Payments Interface system. It has the format username@bankhandle and allows instant money transfers between bank accounts.

What is the format of a valid UPI ID?

A valid UPI ID follows the pattern: username@bankhandle. The username can be 2–256 characters (letters, digits, dots, hyphens, underscores) and the bank handle must be 2–64 letters.

What is a UPI bank handle?

The part after the "@" symbol is the bank handle (also called PSP handle). It identifies the Payment Service Provider (bank or wallet) that manages the UPI ID. For example, @oksbi is managed by SBI, @ybl by PhonePe/Yes Bank.

Does this tool verify if a UPI ID is active?

No. This tool only validates the format and identifies the bank from the handle. It does not connect to NPCI or any bank to verify if the UPI ID is registered or active.

What does "Unknown bank handle" mean?

If your UPI ID format is valid but the handle is not in our database of 50+ handles, it shows "Unknown bank handle." This does not mean the ID is invalid — it may be a newer or less common handle.

What is @ybl used for?

@ybl is the UPI handle used by PhonePe, operated through Yes Bank. It is one of the most widely used UPI handles in India.

Can I have a UPI ID without a bank account?

Some wallet-based UPI handles like @paytm or @airtel allow UPI payments through prepaid wallets, but most handles require a linked bank account.

Why do some UPI handles start with "ok"?

Google Pay uses handles starting with "ok" for partner banks: @oksbi (SBI), @okicici (ICICI), @okaxis (Axis), and @okhdfcbank (HDFC). The "ok" prefix is specific to Google Pay's PSP arrangement.

Is my UPI ID safe to enter here?
