How is the employer contribution split in EPF?

The employer contributes 12% of Basic + DA, but it is split: 3.67% goes to the EPF account (included in your balance) and 8.33% goes to the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS). Only the 3.67% EPF portion grows in your PF account.

How is EPF interest calculated?

EPF interest is calculated monthly on the running balance (opening balance + contributions received that month). The annual rate is divided by 12 for monthly compounding. Interest is credited to the account at the end of the financial year.

Can I withdraw my EPF before retirement?

Partial withdrawals are allowed for specific purposes like home purchase, medical emergencies, or education after completing certain years of service. Full withdrawal is allowed after 2 months of unemployment or at age 58. Early withdrawal may have tax implications.

Is EPF maturity amount taxable?

EPF withdrawals after 5 years of continuous service are completely tax-free. If withdrawn before 5 years, the employer contribution, interest on both contributions, and your contribution (if claimed under 80C) become taxable.
