1. TAKE NOTICE THAT my client, [SENDER NAME], is the lawful holder of Cheque No. [CHEQUE NO.] dated ___________ for an amount of ___________ drawn on [BANK NAME] issued by you, [RECIPIENT NAME], towards discharge of a legally enforceable debt/liability.
2. That the said cheque was presented for encashment on ___________ but was dishonored and returned unpaid with the remark "[REASON]". A memo of dishonor was received by my client from the bank.
3. That under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the dishonor of a cheque issued for the discharge of a debt or liability constitutes a criminal offence punishable with imprisonment up to two years, or with a fine up to twice the amount of the cheque, or both.
4. You are hereby called upon to make the payment of the said sum of ___________ (___________ only) within 15 days from the receipt of this notice, failing which my client shall be constrained to initiate criminal proceedings against you under Section 138 of the NI Act, 1881, at your risk, cost, and consequences.
