How does color extraction work?

The tool uses a k-means clustering algorithm to group similar pixels in the image. It samples ~10,000 pixels, quantizes them to reduce noise, and then clusters them into the number of colors you select (4-12). The centroid of each cluster becomes a color in your palette.
